Botox

Botox is a popular worldwide method of treating and reducing the appearance of wrinkles. It is an injectable, non-invasive treatment, which with only one session will make the wrinkles disappear. Botulinum toxin type A, nowadays known as Botox, has been approved for many years and is applied by various medical specialties in order to treat various neurological diseases, some types of migraine, eyelid spasm, as well as in case of hyperhidrosis (armpits-palms-soles).

Allantotoxin or botulinum toxin type A targets the nervous system, disrupting the nerve signalling processes that stimulate muscle contraction. The substance is not absorbed by the body, so it is safe. With a series of tiny injections in the area of the wrinkles, the muscle stops contracting. It results in the smoothing of the wrinkles and preventing the appearance of new ones. It is effective on both types of wrinkles, dynamic (when we make expressions and then disappear) and static (visible, without making expressions). Whatever the reason is to treat wrinkles, the goal is to improve overall the face contour and look, without effecting the expressiveness of the face.

• Forehead
• Sides of the eyes (crow’s feet)
• Frown lines (between eyebrows)
• At the corner of the mouth
• Bunny lines (sides of the nose)

The effect of Botox is temporary, and it can last between 3 to 6 months. Ideally is to be repeated 2-3 times a year.

There is no exact age for this treatment. Some people with intense expressiveness may develop wrinkles earlier than average. Around the age of 28-30 it can be done to prevent the appearance of expression wrinkles. As we age, this treatment smoothens the already existing wrinkles and prevents the appearance of new ones.

Rarely, it can give a feeling of heaviness, small bruises on treated area or mild headaches that subside very quickly.

• For the next 4 hours after treatment the patient should not lay down
• Avoid consumption of alcohol on the same day of treatment
• Avoid touching, rubbing or physical pressure on treated area
• Avoid exposure to high temperatures (sauna, hot shower, hair dryer) for the next 2 days
